visitors

We had some visitors recently. First, my niece Maddie came to stay for 10 days. We had lots of fun with her here. We got to see and do lots of great things (not all documented) with her here.

We saw the Statue of Liberty

Checked the progress on the Kansas City Temple

The Missouri River

We also went swimming, to the zoo, to a Royal's game, to the Kansas City Library, to the WWI Monument/Museum, had a picnic, saw Union Station, toured Fort Leavenworth, went shopping, and did lots of other fun things. Thanks for coming, Maddie!

ALSO,

Josh's grandpa happened to be passing through town last weekend. We got to have dinner with him in Kansas City. We only spent an hour or so with him, but it's always nice to see family - no matter the duration.

new ride

We got a 'new ride' for my birthday. Well, Brigham did. He seems to like it, and I like the alternate mode of transportation. Here we are on a trial ride.

CPT Underpants vs. Big Dead Limb

In case you aren't familiar with the weather here in Kansas, it's pretty windy. Most of the time. We have two big (great big, in fact) trees in our front yard. We put a swing on one of the branches for Brigham. There was, however, a big (great big, in fact) dead branch that was lodged up above the swing. Because the wind blows so much (and with all of the bad storms) I was afraid that this big dead branch (more like a log) would come tumbling down one day when we least expected it.
CPT Underpants (which is what I like to call Josh ever since he became a Captain, not because of the underpants part, but the CPT part) came to the rescue. We don't have a chainsaw. We don't have a ladder. But we do have rope, and we do have a medicine ball. We also have a big, strong Josh. So, Brigham and I watched the show - and Josh got the big hazard out of our tree.

CPT

Josh got promoted to Captain last week. It has been a long time coming and is nice to have done. There was a nice ceremony that Briggs and I were invited to (and also invited to provide refreshments for). Here are a couple of pictures of the event.

Way to go CPT Mikkelsen!
